Veterinarian saves cat with xenotransfusion
In a rare but necessary move, veterinarian Sean Perry at Marathon Veterinary Hospital in Florida recently gave a feline patient a blood transfusion using canine blood. Feline blood would be a preferable option, but Buttercup the cat was severely anemic and couldn’t wait for the blood to be delivered, so Dr. Perry offered the xenotransfusion since canine blood was available. The National Library of Medicine says there have been just 62 such xenotransfusions performed.  Full story here.
